  1. Thanks a ton for this lesson, learnt a lot. A quick question, I noticed that in order to define the shape of each rock besides shading it aligned to the source of the light, I also see that a very thin layer of unshaded space is left between two rocks. Am I visualizing this incorrectly or is this deliberate, as I’ve noticed this in other drawings as well? Appreciate your response.

      Both sides of the charcoal paper are suitable. The real question is would you rather have the laid pattern going horizontally or vertically. 🙂
