What type of watercolor is being used?
It’s Cotman watercolors
Matt,
Are these cakes watercolors or tube watercolors? Also, do you find that it is harder to get a lighter value with tube watercolors?
Hi Dustin,
Yes, I believe I did use cake watercolors in this one. The tube watercolors are usually more intense simply because they are already more saturated.
Are you painting wet on wet? Wet on dry?
The first few applications were applied wet into “damp”. The surface wasn’t completely saturated. Typically, I’ll apply wet into wet applications early in the process before working mostly wet over dry. I hope this helps.
I have a problem with the downloaded video it is playing in black & white & hard to follow if you are painting in colour. Can you explain why the downloaded video is playing in black & white and not colour. Ive downloaded it twice with same results.
Hi Barbara,
The downloaded video file is in color. Be sure that you are downloading the HD 720p version and not the original file. The original file is very large. What player are you using to play the video once it’s downloaded?
You were very prompt at replying to my comment. Windows Media Player is what I used not sure which file I downloaded and have since switched to a different video player and everything is back to colour once more. thank you. I am really enjoying the lessons & courses you have provided.
I got the Cotman 12 pan set – which doesn’t have Gamboche or Prussian Blue. What I should I do when I don’t have the colors you’re using? I’m very beginner.
Loving this course!
Hi Lexie,
You can use Cadmium Yellow with a touch of Burnt Umber or Yellow Ochre in place of Gamboge Hue. You can also use Phthalo Blue in place of Prussian Blue. I hope this helps.
What is the best way to transfer a drawing onto watercolor paper?
Hi Cynthia,
I like to use a graphite transfer for this, but use my own graphite instead of graphite paper. You can see this method in action in this lesson…https://thevirtualinstructor.com/members/the-watercolor-workshop-portrait-painting-part-1/
