Lesson Discussion

  1. Hi matt, thank you for your answer,
i followed the directions, but the download button dos not respond to me.
i will try from another computer, and let you know.

  2. Really looking forward to this 1 after successfully completing secrets to drawing eventually like because of my disibility and extra illness, getting used to morphine patches etc……… Here we go !!!!! πŸ™‚πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘
Oh just to say I’ve improved quite a bit since starting that 1st course thank you Matt for all the hard work you put in, from videos, Ebooks and live lessons, blogs 100 % passionate teaching πŸ™‚ Cheers Matt xx

  3. When I tried I was unable to determine how large the circle should be, how far it came down on the line I had drawn, then how wide to make the lower portions of the skull. When I tried to guess, it was too narrow. Where can I get measurements?

  4. I think I have missed a tutorial on measurement when drawing from sight? Is this in the secrets to drawing course? I haven’t looked at that yet.

  5. Matt I can’t find a Toned Grey pad. The Charcoal pencil seems to need to be imported from China for some reason. I found a pastel pencil ( white). Will that do? and can I use white paper?

    • Hi Chipo,

You’ll need to be more specific with the issue that you’re having. Videos are downloaded by following the “Download Page” link which appears after the trial period is over. The video files are available for download – audio only files do not exist.

  6. Hi when I go unto a lesson it only runs for around 2 minutes and then stops. I have tried 3 lessons and it’s happened with each one. It’s like it’s on pause but doesn’t start up again. Regards michele

    • Hi Michele,

It’s sounds as though you are experiencing some buffering which happens when your internet connection is unstable or a little slow. You can scroll over the video and click on the gear icon. Change the stream resolution to a lower resolution and it should fix the issue for you.

  7. Hi Matt ,

Iv just started using this module. Like how Carolyn Blankenship mentioned earlier (on July 10, 2016 at 8:47 pm) , how do you determine how big the circle should go. I got the basice first vertical line to put in. But how would one know how larger the dia of the circle should be ?

    • Hi Rebbie,

When looking directly at the skull, like we see in this module. The circle is approximately half the length of the line drawn in the first step. I hope this helps.

  8. Do I understand correctly that none of the services are available for review during the trial period? If not, which of the services can I access as a new member who wants to evaluate the program during the seven-day trial period. I can understand why you prefer that no one downloads a video until he pays the full amount, but can he not even view a video during the trial?

    • Hi Robert,

No, you can watch all of the videos and download the ebooks. The only feature that is disabled during the trial is downloading the actual video files. You can stream the videos and watch them by simply clicking on the play button on the video above.

  9. Hi, I’m 11 and I do your videos. I drew this skeleton but I didn’t have any charcoal white stuff in handy. Thank you for the video. When I drew it my parents were like okay? Because it is a skeleton.

  10. Have a real quick question on my technic with blenders. Whenever I use them it always turns whatever Im working on one muddy tone or color. I am obviously doing something wrong. Do you have any recommendations?

    • Hi Katie,

There are several factors here, so it’s hard to tell. The paper, the medium, and the type of blender all play a role. The amount of pressure you place on the blender also makes a difference. A blending stump does dull the intensity of the medium, but usually only slightly.

  11. I would have found it very helpful to have more specific measurements to get started with. Proportions are crucial to the face and I felt all over the place. My head did not look like the head and had I had more specific instructions other than the picture to go by I would have had more success in getting the eyes and nose and teeth where they should have been.

  12. Thank you very much for a super instructional video. You explain things so clearly and give just the right amount of information.

I do just need to say that I did struggle with the music in the background. It makes it so much harder to stay focussed on your voice which is the most important part for me.
Music without any talking is fine but music and instruction together does not work.

  13. I’m currently doing the Secrets to Drawing course and decided to do this at the same time. I was really pleased with my first ever skull drawing. I made a few mistakes with the proportions and struggled getting the right balance with the tonal values. But that’s how we learn, right? Practice, practice, practice… Off to find more skulls now (images of skulls, that is!). Thank you for your fabulous tuition!

  14. Hello Matt
I have been using General Charcoal B2 and B4 and white charcoal. And just started my skull profile. Any reason not to use charcoal over graphite?
