Charcoal Drawing Tip- Charcoal drawings can be created on a variety of surfaces.  Some artists use special papers with a tooth designed to accept the charcoal.  In this video series, I am using gray drawing paper that has a smooth tooth.  Gray paper has a medium value and is good for creating drawings that use both light and dark applications of charcoal.

The following video drawing lesson is part 2 of a charcoal drawing lesson of a skull on gray paper using vine charcoal, compressed black charcoal, and white compressed charcoal.

Charcoal Drawing Tip- Charcoal is best erased using an eraser called a "kneaded eraser".  Kneaded erasers can be pulled and molded into any shape and are used to "pull" the value off the paper.  Kneaded erasers turn dark gray when they are used but can be cleaned by kneading the eraser with your hands.
