Here is my first oil pastel landscape, its rather small, but being that it was my first, I wanted to work small and practice.

It's got a lot going for it; I'm a huge fan of graphite but even I've started to appreciate what I can do in colour, and I think if you keep paying attention to exactly how many colours you can use in a depiction of a field of grass (for example) you're going to be fine.

It would be better if you post the pic by bit more zooming!

I understand what you mean, I just think it looked a little better zoomed out a bit, being that oil pastels don't have much detail, and I wasn't trying to focus on the detail, rather the composition. :)

I find oil pastels are difficult to work with but I really like what you have done with your mountains.  I am assuming that you took a photograph of your work and I might suggest that you try scanning in your art work.  I have had greater success with scanning and it is my understanding that the mega project to preserve the great art works of the masters was done using huge scanners.

Thank you! And yes a few of my art pictures have been scanned in, just haven't gotten around to this one, being that I haven't been at my college's studio lately.

I too Alan am I big fan of graphite and I love black and white pencil drawings but I'm.coming around to colour slowly and I think this looks nice :-)

I think this is good, I had a go of oil pastels and found them hard so I abandoned it ha ha but I may have a go again in the future
