Pastel Painting - Suggestions Wanted
« on: February 24, 2015, 05:39:51 AM »
I'm new to using pastels. This is maybe my 4th painting. I'm having trouble getting the shades of color that I want and the details that I'd like. This was done on Canson Mi-Tientes gray-blue pastel paper using soft & hard pastels along with pastel pencils.

All comments & suggestions welcome! Thanks, Kris

A couple of ranges of "professional" soft pastels in my Art Supplies catalogue boast of having over 400 shades/ colours - the Sennelier range boasts 525 shades - and I bet you'd still need to blend some shades to get the exact colour you wanted.

Take some time out - grab a bit of inexpensive board and a box of pastels and just sit there experimenting with colour mixes; see what you end up with.
