Drawing specific shapes, like an egg
« on: March 28, 2013, 06:19:42 PM »
I've watched through the one point perspective video in the drawing series, so maybe this is covered later on, but in regard to the video on value what I found most difficult was drawing a simple (maybe not so simple) egg shape. I understand the shading concept, just need to practice that. Any tips on getting a good oval shape? Two circles, one smaller than the other? That seems to get a basic shape, but more drawing and erasing than necessary to get an oval. Maybe just a lot of practice drawing an egg.

Hi Creekside!  Ah the egg shape.  Not so easy to get right.  But then again anything curved can be difficult.  My suggestion is to draw from your shoulder instead of your wrist.  The joint in your shoulder is better suited for making curved marks.
