Dove in Flight, first painting/acrylics

This was my first experience with painting. It was painted on a 10 x 12 canvas using acrylics. I wasn't confident enough to use a brush, and I didn't have a painting knife, so I used a regular butter knife to paint with which worked quite well in creating the imagery of the feathers. In most spots, I layered the paint on somewhat thick while trying to leave the dove itself with a calmer texture. I used vibrant colors to express the boldness of the white bird and the overall mood of the painting. While I see many opportunities for improvement, I definitely enjoyed the experience! Will be much obliged if you comment/critique.

It's got lots going for it, but it needs just a little too much work for me after my lunchtime concert today. I figure I'd have got it was a bird without you telling us but I'd have struggled to say it was a dove. The use of vivid colours is very bold, however, and I really like that.
