I am taking the Guide to Graphite course and just watched Module 6 -- Light and Shadow, Part 2. I have taken other courses, but I guess I wasn't paying attention to this particular thing. I noticed that you start with lighter pencils and move to darker pencils, slowly building up values. Why? I find myself using a particular pencil for the initial sketch, then I move to my final pencils for the rest of the drawing. Usually I do the sketch with a 4B and then use 4B, 6B, and 8B to finish the drawing. I use a lot of erasing and blending, also. I have tried using harder pencils for lighter values, but seem to prefer using a light touch with a soft pencil and lots of erasing and blending. LOL! Is that just my style or am I doing it wrong?
Thanks! :-)
